K-12 Online Staff Development

As long as I have been a teacher I have been attending staff development for current curriculum, theory, procedures and other teacher related topics at school, the district office or other lecture hall in the area. On the most part they tend to have the same type of delivery and at times I walk away with little or no information I can use in my classroom. Much of what I learn is by working with other teachers or studying on my own. I would like to design a system for creating staff development that is online and helps teachers improve their own teaching and is accessible at their own convenience.

  1. Hi Melinda,

This is a great idea. Do you have any ideas for the parameters of the system? Maybe it could be a blog like this, or something with categories. . .chunked information of sorts.

    Regards,

  2. I thought of having something like Blackboard, where all the course materials, objectives, readings, discussions, were all together. It would also be nice to have a link on the school district website...

  3. Melinda, if you can create a workable, successful framework for virtual teacher training, your service will be sought by everyone. You have communicated such a common complaint from teachers - walk away without much. This has to change and mentoring and training followup with continual checkins on an authentically applied project could be an answer. ~ Datta Kaur
